Monday 27th March
Got busy over the weekend so catching up now.. The Treehouse(primate trust rescue centre) has been busy last week with tours coming through. I went with Jo to the market in Mapusa to get the next two days worth of food for the 43 monkeys. Which was got all FREE with Jo and I walking around the market for probably 2 hours asking for fruit as well as people coming forward to offer it as they no Jo, she had been doing this for years and not having to pay for food is the only way perhaps this rescue centre can survive..i was totally blown away by this experience in the way people gave and also the extremes Jo goes to for these monkeys in all ways. She does this three times a week..in her spare time she is making up new enrichment toys for them all, and staff are taking some out during the day on long lines..If Jo and her husband hadn't set up this rescue centre for the monkeys the govt would of released them into the wild..John and Jos goal was to purchase land or get it gifted to them to give these monkeys a lot bigger spaces to live in, .It just about happened last year.I asked Jo if monkeys are still being sold as pets she said a couple of months ago someone had one for sale in the market..people without a lot of money still look at ways to make some from the wild of course. And animal welfare isn't apart of some peoples thoughts education hopefully is the key.
I felt he need to go back to the dog rescue centre to follow through on how the skin treatment had gone for that doggie and see if the little sweetie was still there on my home page she is and the dogs treatment carried on from another volunteer ..missed not being there and being amongst it all there. The vets and staff are so busy dealing with emergency cases coming in the door and the clinic and other surgeries. Puppies and kittens being brought in..There's a dog there who needs daily physio who got hit by a car going back to help a few days a week with him he cant walk....
I visited a cow rescue place and dog called WAG Welfare for animals in Goa in the weekend just down the road from where Im living they take cows in who have been hit by cars and sick also ones who have been left once they stop producing milk they are no good to the owners so they think..cows eat off the streets often consume plastic bags and toxic material..These people are making cleaning product's from the cows distilled urine and Go laxmi home air purifiers from cows dung. The products are naturally a antibacterial and fungicidal. They have a monkey with a arm missing and do surgeries also..Met a St Bernard dog who was a breeding male and got his leg all ripe open on wire and was left they took him in and repaired his leg.Going there on Saturday now to.
Enjoying where I live amongst locals and foreigners and get to met more people. Have a good landlord. Have three dogs here one who I dee ticked...one has some awful growths on his leg may be skin cancer but are trying to get him into to the clinic for removal...Casey thas a owner here the other two just get feed by everyone and get looked after. A asked a man whos dog is it he said everybody's summed it up really ...so my doggie to....

Saturday 18th March
Exciting last week in Goa as have been elections and Goa has a new MP member...In fact it has brought out more FIREWORKS...usually you hear some going off for Birthdays celebrations and some lovely displays. Now its like huge bombs going off everywhere really loud. Because of the new MP and it was his Brothers Birthday. at least the animals here are use to them more all year round. Enjoying being part of the culture and people here..lovely to sit and listen to the people in the Hindu temples chatting to the music..Now Goa is having 7 days of holy celebrations where they have a truck with drummers playing and people walk behind it an stop at certain places and throw all the colour dire over each other dance and play instruments and are happy and joyful and have heaps of fun then eat at each place.
Started at the monkey rescue place on Wednesday..has 54 monkeys all rescued as pets or loss of parents native to Goa..Langurs..Macaques..Quiet a few are taken out on long lines to walk around and climb trees, Its realy cool to see them out and enjoying that..some go in swimming in the pool and visitors can pay for a tour and get some monkey contact and swim in the pool with them..not advertised as aren't aloud to but a little money maker to help. Is in a beautiful spot in a rural area where there are snakes saw them on my first day...have to be abit careful as have some poisons ones here and..cleaning cages and getting the monkeys use to me at moment..Some of the monkeys can only be with a male out for walks etc. The lady Jo who runs it is a English women her and her husband set up the dog rescue centre I went to first for 15 year's..and the some one brought them one monkey and they started this now and have built cages at there home which is called the tree house. Sadly Jos husband John passed away 2 years ago as they had already done so much they were aloud to go and take pets from peoples homes supported by the government..and have made so many change's to many laws rules etc regarding animal welfare.Devoted most of there life and financial commitment to animal welfare..Its a beautiful drive out o the tree house around the water.
Going well with the heat wise even feel bit cold when the temp drops.Amaze myself for a person who didnt do spicy or hot food....now trying all the deserts and sweets.
Was in heaven when I brought some brown bread and had TOAST AND JAM.
Moving accommodation tomorrow wont have wi fi until I sort out how to do that for myself....
Watch BBC news on telly abit and catch up on some news.Saw about the sniffer dog being shot..
Will get some photos up soon as don't carry my camera round with me while working..and when I have time to take some to..
My thoughts to all..

Hi all
A post before I leave here to my next accommodation in Siolim only 20 mins away but closer to monkey rescue place have been staying in Anjuna..
Went in today to treat the doggy with mange posted photo he is looking amazing even after the first treatment skin redness really reduce by heaps..Will do last one for him on Monday my last day there another wonderful volunteer there will hand feed him all his meds can only improve from now on hopefully. Feel like I have learnt so much about parvo even first systoms now...We unfortunately had a bit of a out break was thinking it may well happen with the puppies after out first one a few days ago and lost four. Stepped up observations and having to disinfectant quiet a few areas and separated any puppies with a sign of any systoms...good news late yesterday and today no signs of it.
Have really enjoyed being apart of the team here and have felt very accepted, appreciated, cared about and valued. A huge lesson in letting go and moving forward. Focusing on what you can do, but must admit a few tears have formed, gathered myself up and taken a deep breath.
Its so funny when you adjust to a new working environment and it becomes the norm, and you adjust to that...dogs with red Bindis...All sorts of Purebreds coming in to the clinic some very over weight and have thick coats that dont work in the heat here. People walking in just holding there cats or puppies/dogs the animals here are so use to it and just sit with them most of the time, and are so plastered...People bringing in all streets dogs/puppies/kittens and cats..Men so skilled with there dog handling and dogs in nets.Puppies going to there new homes in boxes /carrier bags..being carried on there motor bikes, One day I tied a beautiful colourful piece of cloth around the neck of a puppy and we had a lead.
Have become a mazed how many people and a even a big dog can all fit on a scooter motorbike..last night a dog still knocked out on a drip on a bike with two men..its the main form of transport here and they make it work of course. Quiet a few overseas vets have been here volunteering also they said one vet did over 400 operations what a huge contribution.
Some one said many moneys are dieing in the wild here she said fever so seems something is going around for them also.
Some times the air here is very thick and smokey..Everybody burns off there rubbish and paddocks, often gets away of course to and have loss of habitat....went out into another village and had a lovely look at it with a lady who woks at WVS..stayed the night and had the best Indian cooked meal since I have been here. Was so yummy even had SECONDS...we were trying to get my long pants to stay up as forgot my belt and they now just about fall off.......
All my thoughts to you all.

The impact of the parvo going around at the moment is very rip..lost a beautiful female puppy to parvo today..but the effects may go a lot deeper with the other puppies in the same area and I counted up all the contact I had after handling her which is about 20 puppies and at least 12 dogs that was just me ..she was vaccinated two weeks ago also..the good thing is most puppies and dogs with us have been vaccinated also. 20 cases out of 25 seen in the clinic from the public in the last two weeks have had parvo..Went to visit the doggy with the skin condition is looking abit better had some nice time with him hand feeding him ..we all push on to help the next one and then the next one is all that we can do, that is our best.. ..

This little soul took my heart today..Mange. Many dog get it here.Did some treatment for him. First had to scrub him with a pot scrubber to get layer of skin off where the mange has taken over, so new healing and skin growth can start again. Then a bath in a special shampoo. Then cover him in a white liquid that is poison leave on for a while..it has been quiet effective before as a treatment and do again in 3 days... he was so good considering what he was like when I frist started ..gave him some relief when massaging all the treatment in.Started with a raging bull finished with a grateful fellow with a bit more trust to the human hand.

Hi All
Another busy fill on week at work. Some great results this week we adopted 6 dogs on Thursday. Really surprising all the different people that come in looking for puppies to adopt. Had a few Mums in to from the streets with there litters of puppies that have all been adopted to .But there are many more dogs and Mums with there puppies on all the beaches around there are quiet a few beaches around Goa we are on the coast and tourist feed them there but the worse part of the sessions for the dogs is monsoon when no tourist are around to feed them and of course disease comes with the weather. There are quiet a few foreigners here who live here and have set up there own dog rescue places on big properties they rent and bring many dogs in to be de sexed and vaccinated. There are sponsors who help WVS here as it has changed hands and are a out reach of the centre like dog trust. It has also become a training centre for vets and quiet a few overseas trainee and local people. Hard to believe I only have a week left. Seems like a place I could stay at and always will be work here I could do, but feel that will probably be the case at every place I will be going to. Gave a tour with three ladies from overseas who want to do fund raising for the centre who are doing local work with the women who are teaching birth controls this is problem also of families living in poverty with many children. Really enjoying the relationships here I have formed. love watching he monkeys coming in and taking fruits from trees. Of course the locals don't as they say they spoil the trees and no food left for them. Loving all the fruit available and the dinners at work one day we had chips with the tradional Indian meal.....Its is getting hotter here as the season changes to there summer and the students are doing exams before there summer holiday.
My thoughts to you all.
