Monday 27th March
Got busy over the weekend so catching up now.. The Treehouse(primate trust rescue centre) has been busy last week with tours coming through. I went with Jo to the market in Mapusa to get the next two days worth of food for the 43 monkeys. Which was got all FREE with Jo and I walking around the market for probably 2 hours asking for fruit as well as people coming forward to offer it as they no Jo, she had been doing this for years and not having to pay for food is the only way perhaps this rescue centre can survive..i was totally blown away by this experience in the way people gave and also the extremes Jo goes to for these monkeys in all ways. She does this three times a week..in her spare time she is making up new enrichment toys for them all, and staff are taking some out during the day on long lines..If Jo and her husband hadn't set up this rescue centre for the monkeys the govt would of released them into the wild..John and Jos goal was to purchase land or get it gifted to them to give these monkeys a lot bigger spaces to live in, .It just about happened last year.I asked Jo if monkeys are still being sold as pets she said a couple of months ago someone had one for sale in the market..people without a lot of money still look at ways to make some from the wild of course. And animal welfare isn't apart of some peoples thoughts education hopefully is the key.
I felt he need to go back to the dog rescue centre to follow through on how the skin treatment had gone for that doggie and see if the little sweetie was still there on my home page she is and the dogs treatment carried on from another volunteer ..missed not being there and being amongst it all there. The vets and staff are so busy dealing with emergency cases coming in the door and the clinic and other surgeries. Puppies and kittens being brought in..There's a dog there who needs daily physio who got hit by a car going back to help a few days a week with him he cant walk....
I visited a cow rescue place and dog called WAG Welfare for animals in Goa in the weekend just down the road from where Im living they take cows in who have been hit by cars and sick also ones who have been left once they stop producing milk they are no good to the owners so they think..cows eat off the streets often consume plastic bags and toxic material..These people are making cleaning product's from the cows distilled urine and Go laxmi home air purifiers from cows dung. The products are naturally a antibacterial and fungicidal. They have a monkey with a arm missing and do surgeries also..Met a St Bernard dog who was a breeding male and got his leg all ripe open on wire and was left they took him in and repaired his leg.Going there on Saturday now to.
Enjoying where I live amongst locals and foreigners and get to met more people. Have a good landlord. Have three dogs here one who I dee ticked...one has some awful growths on his leg may be skin cancer but are trying to get him into to the clinic for removal...Casey thas a owner here the other two just get feed by everyone and get looked after. A asked a man whos dog is it he said everybody's summed it up really ...so my doggie to....

Hi Jo, nice to hear there are still some wonderful people in the world, donating food and time for the animals. As a cow lover, it's great to hear the cows are also being looked after. Sounds like you are having an awesome experience. Jen
ReplyDeleteThanks Jen yes is wonderful to see all there work for the cows also..they are trying to re educate better for all cows. and get the use of all the plastic bags turned around into using other products.
