Friday 26th May
Certainly missing seeing all the dogs at SOS each day seems very strange being a tourist and is taking a bit of adjustment. I think of Estelle after all the special time we spent together and everybody else there where there were so many special wonderful moments shared, now not being there with them. So much love was given and received. Another piece of my heart is firmly placed there also.
The disabled dogs did take quiet abit of care they had 3 men full time working with 49 dogs. Keeping areas clean as they are on the ground all the time washing them daily. Emptying there bladders as they don't pass urine as normal dogs do. They get massaged everyday and creams applied, some have pressure sores from being on the same side each day. They get feed 3 times a day, and some get medication everyday. And of course get out in there carts most days in the afternoon's if not raining. Could imagine the coast of running SOS is huge just with the food costs before anything else and all done on donations mainly from Britain many people have big hearts ..thank goodness for them. And of course is only going to get bigger with dogs from around the area some came from Colombo which is 3 hours away. If it wasn't for Kim who only started by taking in disabled dogs many dogs lives would of been very different  and in fact loss of lives would of been high after seeing the street dogs and reason why so many disabled dogs is from road accident's. One came in on last day a Mum who had puppies so they searched for the puppies...then next day a local man drove a really long way with one puppy which was hers and she is gong to be okay..restores your faith. Unfortunately the vet said this is the fate of many street dogs.
Finally got to go into the cat rescue area think about 80 cats were in there and they are all over you for attention a cat lovers dream. My Mum would of loved it in there in fact chatted to her while in there.....
What a huge learning experience SOS has been found my place of passion once again as I did in India. And a month goes really quickly. The seize of it all is just incredible each day I found more and more and more and more dogs to love ...Don't no if there is any other place like this where you can be with two groups of 500 dogs 49 disabled and another 30 amongst the groups outside and 80 cats..Truly a special and very unique experience .I'm never going to forget and carry it close to my heart.
